Dr. Becky Carlon, known by most of her patients as Dr. Becky, is an Albany native. She attended Deerfield High School and Emory College. She graduated from Emory University School of Dentistry in 1976, being the only female in her class of 106. She was then appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery of Vanderbilt University Medical School, serving as the medical center’s hospital dentist for 3 years. She had the experience of treating medically compromised patients in a hospital setting with different complications. In 1979, she joined her father, Dr William K. Bays, in private practice here in Albany. In addition to treating patients in the practice, Dr. Becky has served as the supervising dentist in the dental hygiene program, and taught clinical students at the dental school in Augusta as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Restorative Dentistry.
Dr. Becky earned her fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry in 2000, in recognition of 500 hours of rigorous continuing education and examination. She also has completed the necessary education and has been approved by the Georgia Board of Dentistry to administer injectables, including Botox and fillers.
Dr. Becky served on the Georgia Board of Dentistry from 2004 to 2014. The Board consists of 9 dentists appointed by the governor, and issues and oversees the licenses of all the dentists and dental hygienists in Georgia. The goal of the board is to maintain high ethical and clinical standards in the profession of dentistry in the state, thereby providing protection for the citizens of Georgia. She served on the board for 10 years, and was President of the board from 2010 to 2011. She continues to serve as an examiner for dentists seeking Georgia licensure.
Dr. Becky brings an extensive background of education and achievements to the practice of dentistry. She considers it an honor and a privilege to give every patient the very best care, and finds joy and satisfaction in getting to know her patients as individuals and as friends.
